Kurt, please don’t do this to yourself. Tonight at Bellator 145, Kurt Angle was brought in to commentate Bobby Lashley vs James Thompson (Lashley TKO’d Thompson in under a minute), and was asked if he would be stepping into the cage at 46 years old.
“I’m not going to tease everybody, but there is a possibility. We’ll see, but I’m getting my feet wet here in Bellator. I’m going to have a good time. I’m going to sit back for once in my life, relax and watch, and eventually I’ll make that decision.”
I don’t think there’s even the slightest possibility. No athletic commission in the United States would clear him to fight. Angle has put his body through way too much in his 19 year pro wrestling career, not to mention his amateur wrestling career. He’s missed more moonsaults off a steel cage than Bellator has had events. If Angle were to step into the cage, I’d be very afraid to watch. As an MMA fan, you always hear, “Someone’s going to die in the cage one day!” from uninformed idiots, but I think Kurt Angle may actually die if he fought.
You never know with Kurt Angle, but there’s no denying his injury history. It’s true…it’s damn true.
I’m livetweeting Bellator 145 over at @Squared_Octagon right now. Come join the conversation!
